The 25th Anniversary of Harvard College China Forum Was Held in Hangzhou

On December 17, 2022, the 25th Anniversary of Harvard College China Forum was held in West Lake State Guesthouse in Hangzhou. 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of Nixon’s visit to China. At the 2022 G20 summit, the heads of China and the United States also met. Over the past 50 years, although Sino-US relations have experienced twists and turns, the non-governmental exchanges between these two countries have never stopped as the situations change. The theme of this forum is “Journey Through A Profound Era”, and Chinese and foreign guests at the meeting exchanged and discussed the three sections, namely, “Commercialization of Scientific and Research Findings”, “Sustainable Development” and “Young Scientists”.

At present, the world is faced with multiple overlapping crises, including the emerging global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, which requires cooperation of the mankind. At the forum, experts and scholars from all over the world in politics, business, science, art and other fields exchanged ideas virtually and in person.

The forum covered a wide range of topics. Experts and scholars at the meeting shared their insights into UN’s human settlements policy, China’s sustainable strategy, cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, financial and economic system reform and global development.

Only by involving young people in every work of ours can we speed up our actions, achieve the sustainable development goals and create a greener, safer and fairer future for all.” Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, said in her opening speech.

At the forum, guests and audience reviewed the development history of the forum together. Li Zhongyuan, Zhang Yinjie and Liu Fankai, members of the Presidium of the Organizing Committee of this special forum, also called on all the members of Harvard College China Forum to contribute wisdom and strength to show the responsibility in this era. Li Zhaoxing, former foreign minister, Siddharth Chatterjee, United Nations coordinator in China, Gao Xiqing, former vice chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission, Shi Yigong, academician of China Academy of Sciences and president of Westlake University, Chen Dongsheng, chairman of Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum and founder, chairman and CEO of Taikang Insurance Group Co., Ltd., Wang Shi, founder and honorary chairman of Vanke Group, and Wang Yi, executive director of Harvard Center Shanghai, delivered speeches at the forum. Nearly 200 people, including Harvard alumni, domestic and foreign government and enterprise representatives, university representatives and leaders in various fields, attended the forum.

It is reported that the Harvard College China Forum is a student organization registered in Harvard University, with a history of 25 years, and it is the oldest and largest China summit among overseas student organizations.
